Sunday, May 12, 2019 – Words of Wisdom – Honor

(Proverbs 4:7 NIV)
Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.

(Proverbs 29:23 NIV)
A man’s pride brings him low, but a man of lowly spirit gains honor.

Honor

Honoring begins with _____________ ______________ on someone else.

(Romans 8:30 NIV)
And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

Honoring is ________________ not __________________.

(1 Peter 2:13-17 NIV)

Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.

How do we honor?

______________ others.

(Matthew 22:36-40 ESV)

“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment.  39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

2. ______________ others.

(James 3:9-10 NIV)

With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.

(Ephesians 4:29-30 NIV)

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God.

3. ______________ others.

(Proverbs 27:18 ESV)
Whoever tends a fig tree will eat its fruit, and he who guards his master will be honored.

(John 7:18 NIV) )
He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but he who works for the honor of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.
